Ten most interesting robots ever developed by mankind

I would like to state for the records that I am a tech enthusiast, I so much believe in the revolutionary arm of modern day technology; the thrills, the fun the marvels and all the excitement it brings are all up for savor. But come on, I won’t say I'm all solid as a rock without my fears. I do have little ripples and chills of scares when I see how far technology is soaring like a giant eagle in our time. Artificial Intelligence and Robotics have proven to be a force to reckon with . Most of these robots being created can hardly be differentiated from humans, well if I want to be sincere, I’d rather say that they look better than humans, think better than humans, act better than humans and more efficient. It takes a kid over a year to learn to carry out certain daily living routines but Intelligent robots can learn to do such in less than a month. Shouldn’t we be scared if these robots wake up one day to build a colony and begin a movement maybe called Roboworld ( the word doesn’t exist yet and let’s just pray it doesn’t); a revolution aimed at erasing mankind hence leaving a world full of  robots. It’s funny you might think. Let’s just pull up a fiction where such occurs, then how can these robots multiply? It is interesting to know that most of these robots have been designed with super intelligent algorithms which affords them the ability to design other robots.

Now, enough of the fortune cookie tales, let me run you through to the robots that made my list of ten most interesting robots ever developed by mankind. Don’t forget that this list is exclusively based on my choice and there is a comment section where you can mention some robots that you think were unjustly omitted.

NUMBER 10:

GITA :  I’ m certain you do remember the popular fanciful Vespa scooter, the kind shown in Indian movies where a beautiful Indian princess would always climb upon and while the Vespa is in motion her hair sways nicely with the direction of the wind leaving jitters on the skin of a male admirer. I’m not interested in that Vespa right now, my keen interest lies on the company Piaggo who created Vespa. Piaggo Fastward which happens to be a branch of Piaggo that focuses on travel has topped up their game by designing what will seem to be a solution for cargo management in urban environments using smart mobility platform.

Imagine you’re on a journey and you had so many things to carry on your hand while you still need that same hand to hold your little daughter, it may seem your only option will  be to carry your grocery basket and allow your little princess  to walk beside you. what if I told you that that is not your option. PFF (Piago Fast-forward)) designed a smart nimble, cargo vehicle engineered with the same attention to safety, balancing, vehicle dynamics and performance that you would expect from a motorcycle or car” they call it GITA. Gita is designed to carry your stuff hence giving you free hands to handle other things more important. It is more like a bright blue orb having wheel on both sides for movement. It has a central compartment which opens up revealing an inner storage where all the things you want to transport can safely be held. This helper droid Gita has the ability to follow you while you walk or it can even operate independently in a mapped environment. Gita can deliver packages , carry your groceries or even walk your dog. Wow!, I don’t know about you but Gita is surely awesome hence should make my list on number ten position.

NUMBER 9:

FOLDIMATE :  To be frank, I chose this particular robot because I find it the hardest of times doing my laundry myself, so if there is a robot that can ease me off the stress, the boredom and the misery attached to these household chores then such robot is a darling. That brings me to my ninth on the list of interesting robots; The Foldimate. Technology has definitely improved and the painful tasks attached to the modern age has been made easier by smart home technology, one of such is a smart connected washing and drying machine which goes a long way to washing, drying and folding your clothes very neatly. Foldimate is all on a new level far beyond the electric washing and drying machine, You will have a washed, dried, ironed and folded clothe in a matter of minutes, unfortunately this puts the laundry man at the brink of losing his job . Don’t even tell me anything otherwise foldimate deservingly should have the ninth spot on my long list.

NUMBER 8:

DIGIT:

The predicaments we often face most times by the carelessness and disappointments of delivery men might be at its end point. Ford incorporated and agility robotics Digit onto a factory setting. Digit is a headless humanoid possessing nimble limbs packed with quite many sensors. Digit can balance on one foot but it walks with both feet uprightly, it can easily navigate through a staircase. Digit is a delivery robot that has enough strength to lift a delivery of forty to fifty pounds and drop it at the doorstep of its owner. The vision of Ford is that digit will be carried by a driverless car whilst delivering packages to customers all around. The essence of this invention is to automate the whole process involved in delivery. Though the product has not been commercialized, Ford is presently trying to ascertain the reactions of customers towards meeting a headless humanoid delivery guy.  Right now I’m really trying to imagine one headless guy with my package “Please drop the package by the door and just walk away!” that will surely be my reaction and I’m not going near that door until the headless guy enters his driverless car and zooms off.

NUMBER 7:

AIBO:

Every facet of human and his environment is having a bite of the tech revolution. Aibo is a robotic dog that has the ability to form emotional bond with members of the household just like a real dog. The dog-like robot has a compact body which allows it to move along a total of about twenty two axis. It has a propensity of replicating feelings like love, joy, affection and companionship. The puppy develops unique abilities on its own as it grows closer to its owner. Due to the many sensors in Aibo, as it spends time with its owner the puppy bot tends to become aware of its environment  and how to respond to certain events and situations. Aibo can analyze sound, sensors and images.  Aibo is sure one of its kind, it gradually turns into the best companion the owner can have. I’m surely getting an Aibo for my next birthday.

NUMBER 6:

KURI:  Kuri is a small friendly bot measuring about 6 to 8cm in length and 6.35kg in weight. According to the co-founder of Mayfield Company Mrs. Sarah Osentoski “for generations, people have dreamed of having their own personal robot in home, and we’ve been focused on making that dream more of a reality, we’re proud to introduce Kuri to the world and can’t wait to see how he touches the lives of everyone ranging from parents and children to early adopters. Definitely Kuri is a robot Mayfield company should be proud of creating. Kuri is unique as a robot due to its personality, mobility and environmental awareness. He brings what I will call illumination to a home. Kuri is so smart that it can understand its surroundings, recognize people, call them by names, ask certain questions based on people’s facial expressions, Kuri is a buddy bot that you can converse with; More than the above mentioned, Kuri has a 1080p camera which enables it to check on owner’s pet and surely Kuri can be of assistant in finding your car keys or your phone. This awesome wonder of robot can leverage its powerful speakers, wifi and Bluetooth connectivity and play music or even read bedtime stories for your little kids. Due to its integrated sensors, while moving, Kuri can detect objects and edges hence avoiding them. Kuri is surely a bot to cherish.

NUMBER 5:

KLIME:  What would you think sitting in a bar, and suddenly, you get a slight tap at the back only to turn to see a robot asking you what to drink. That’s exactly the Robot Klime. Klime is a humanoid having about fourteen to twenty degrees of freedom. It is a food serving and also beverage serving humanoid which was created in Spain. Unlike the delivery robot “Digit’ without head, Klime has a human-like head and two arms. Klime is very carefully in pouring drinks and very good at it. It is calculated that the humanoid Klime can serve about three hundred glasses of drinks per hour, no bartender can ever beat Klime’s record so she surely deserves the fifth position of my most interesting robots.

NUMBER 4:

ROBONAUTS:
Scientists have found a way to remedy the risks associated  to space travels by humans; this they achieved by creating robots that can take off from earth, land in space and come back after a while without having a single human being on the space shuttle. These super intelligent robots are called “the robonauts”. These humanoids have proved effective in space explorations hence most countries have adopted the idea. Vyommittra is a female humanoid robot created by India to launch a spaceflight all by herself without any crew into space with the aim of carrying our microgravity experiments which will help in preparation of other crew members. She is a more like a forerunner. Also The Russian Company unveiled a Robot Fedor. Fedor a humanoid was controlled remotely as it flew to the International Space Station (ISS) in the year 2019, there Fedor simulated repairs during spacewalk, after which the humanoid flew back to earth unscathed.

NUMBER 3

ROBEAR:  RIKEN and Sumitomo Riko Company Limited developed a new experimental Healthcare Robot called the Robear. This spectacular robot can gently lift a  patient from the bed and into the wheelchair. It can also provide assistance to patients that find it difficult in standing and walking. The Robear weighs about 140kg and it is designed with variety of features which make it strong and yet gentle. Its Smart Rubber capacitance-type tactile sensors made entirely of rubber allows for gentle movement which ensures that this robot can lift patients carefully without the fear of endangerment. The Legs of Robear can be extended when necessary to avoid a fall in the process of lifting and they can also be retracted in order to allow the robot a free passage through tight spaces.

NUMBER TWO:

SOPHIA: Sophia is a modern day robotic sensation, she is all a beautiful girl should be, she’s smart and articulating. It is considered as the best Robot in the world. Its interactive capacity as a robot is top-class. This Robot Sophia designed by Hansen Robot Hong Kong has the ability of defining sixty two different facial expressions and can clear your doubt relating to almost any question you put across to her. I remember Sophia being interviewed by a popular Hollywood actor and her answers to the questions being thrown to her were beyond what a common robot could fathom. And if I may interest you, recently the Saudi Arabian Government granted her citizenship in their country so she can decide to vote and walk around like every legal citizen of the country; this is as interesting as it is scary.

NUMBER ONE:

AMECA:

Ameca happens to be the world’s most advanced and most realistic humanoid robot, It was developed by Engineered Arts, the leading designer and manufacturer of humanoid entertainment robots. Ameca’s combination of artificial limbs and ligaments, actuators and sensor arrays uses cutting-edge technology. Ameca’s smile can be described as nothing but perfect, her ability to open her mouth wide in surprise, scratch her nose is exceptional. She even engaged in a staring context with its owner. Ameca’s movements are more like that of human and not like the static robotic movement we all know. She has a camera in each of her eyes giving it the ability to detect people and objects. She can react when a finger or hand is held to her face so you won’t find it an easy task trying to slap Ameca.

With that, I come to the end of my ten most interesting robots, perhaps there are other interesting Robots you want us to know about, feel free to mention them in the comment section below.
